Everyone deserves a future
Digital illustrations, Milan, Italy 2022
Created in collaboration with photographer Giles Duley, in partnership with Emergency NGO and Ogilvy, this campaign was launched in Milan in 2022.
The message, “Let’s make 2022 a year of peace, not war,” came to life through a public installation across 100 underground stations throughout the city. The campaign features powerful portraits of war victims by Giles Duley and Sibomana, accompanied by their personal hopes for a future without conflict.
The works are paired with impactful statements such as:
“Peace is not only the end of war, it’s the beginning of life,” “Only in a world gone wrong can someone say that war is right,” “The opposite of war is not peace, it’s life,” and “War makes prisoners, peace makes free people.”
According to UNHCR, 82.4 million people worldwide had been forcibly displaced by the end of 2020 due to persecution, war, violence, and human rights violations.
Emergency NGO’s wish for 2022 was a year without war. As its founder, Gino Strada, stated: “War should be considered a problem to solve, not our destiny.”
Reflecting on recent conflicts, including the crisis in Kabul, Rossella Miccio, President of Emergency, emphasized that war brings only violence, the denial of fundamental human rights, and immense human suffering. She highlighted that civilians—especially women and children—are always the primary victims, and called for global attention to ongoing conflicts to help bring an end to war for good.
